What’s the difference between a music manager and tour manager?

A music manager and a tour manager both play important roles in the music industry, but they have different responsibilities and areas of focus.

A music manager is responsible for the overall career development of an artist, including business and financial planning, securing recording and performance opportunities, and representing the artist's interests. A music manager works to advance the artist's career and increase their exposure and income.

A tour manager, on the other hand, is specifically responsible for the planning and execution of an artist's live performances and tours. This includes booking and coordinating venues, arranging transportation and accommodations, and handling day-to-day logistics such as sound and lighting. The tour manager is also responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of the artist and crew while on tour.

In some cases, a single individual may serve as both the music manager and tour manager for an artist, but in many cases, the responsibilities are divided between two different individuals. Whether working with a single manager or multiple individuals, it's important for an artist to have a clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities of each person involved in their career.
